Graveside Services for Dr. Dan Medaries Trimble, Cmdr USN Retired, 91, of Monroe, LA, will be held 10:00AM Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Hasley Memorial Pavilion in West Monroe, LA with Dr. Alan Miller officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA.
Dan Medaries Trimble, a retired US Navy Commander and retired school system administrator, was born in Monroe, Louisiana on November 5, 1928. He died at St. Francis Medical Center, Monroe, LA on Saturday, June 20,2020.
He is preceded in death by his father, William White Whittington Trimble; his mother, Eula Elva Medaries; his brothers, Joseph Hood Trimble, Jack David Trimble, and William Whitfield Trimble; his wife of 56 years, Betty Richardson Trimble; and his son-in-law, Tommy McJunkins.
Survivors include his son, Michael Daniel Trimble and wife Dana Trimble of Big Canoe, GA; daughters, Patricia Trimble McJunkins Traylor and husband Chet D. Traylor, of Monroe, LA, and Peggy Trimble Estopinal and husband Ryan Conner Estopinal of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Geoffrey Christian Trimble, Patrick Gordon Trimble, Christopher Blake Estopinal, Caroline Grace Brewer, John Thomas McJunkins Jr.; and step-grandchildren, Stephanie Kristen McCormick, Therese Traylor Nagem, Leigh Traylor Likes, and Anna Traylor Holloway; plus a host of nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, and friends.
Dr. Trimble was a member of Monroe’s First Baptist Church, was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Flying Midshipman Association, the Navy Tailhook Association, and numerous honor societies, fraternal and charitable organizations.
Dr. Trimble graduated from Ouachita Parish High School, the US Navy Post Graduate School, earned a master’s degree from George Washington University, and a Doctorate Degree from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana-Monroe). During his Naval career he earned his naval aviator’s wings, saw combat in Korea, graduated from the Naval War College, attained the rank of Commander, commanded Attack Squadron 83 (VA-83) also known as the Rampagers, and lived to tell the story of over 600 carrier landing. In his teaching career he spent most of his time as an administrator at the parish level supervising programs for special education programs.
