Funeral services for Dr. Calvin B. Folds, age 84, will be held at 2 PM Monday, January 25, 2010, at the Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church, Old Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA, with Rev. Joe Solomon officiating. Interment will follow at the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 AM until time of service, at the Lea Joyner Methodist Church, Old Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA.
Dr. Folds graduated from LSU Medical School in 1957 and started practicing medicine, in Springhill, LA in 1958. He later opened his practice in Monroe, LA, in 1962 until 1998, at which time he moved to Logansport, LA to practice in a rural clinic. In 2002, he worked at the Northeast LA War Veteran’s Home until November, 2009, when he became ill. He passed away on January 25, 2010, of a lengthy illness.
Dr. Folds had a total of 57 years of medical practice. He touched many lives over the entire state and will be greatly missed.
His professional organizations were; The LA STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY, AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, LA STATE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AND OUACHITA MEDICAL SOCIETY.
He joined the Navy and served in the Marine Corp, in the Medical Battalion, from 1942 until 1946. He joined the Naval Reserve for the next four years.
Dr. Folds was known around the state for being a Master Mason. He was Grand Master of Masons of LA in 1981 and a 33 Degree Scottish Rite mason. He was a member of the York Rite, Eastern Star, Barak Shrine Temple, National Sojourners and a member of The Western Star Lodge, Robert W. Cretney Lodge and the D.A. Strickland Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Bama Folds.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Emerson Folds of West Monroe, LA; daughters, Liz Folds of Huston, TX; Kathy Hassell and husband Dayne of Shreveport, LA; son, Calvin B. Folds, Jr. and wife Wendy of Plano; stepchildren, Bobby R. Panzico, Jr., Andrea May and fiancé, Aaron, Gary Darby and wife Sandy of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Josh Freeman, Matt Donley, Meredith Price, Brooke Walker, Anna Folds, Will May, Taylor May; great grandchildren, Amelia Donley, Ella Price, Madeline Price, and Ava Price.
