Dr. B. Morris Phillips of Monroe, LA died peacefully at his home on June 26, 2018. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Dr. Phillips was born on December 23, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Phillips of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. He graduated from Bogue Chitto High School and went on to attend Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He later completed his Residency training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
Dr. Phillips moved to Monroe, LA in 1951 and opened his practice in Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat. He specialized in diseases and surgery of the eye and was joined in his Ophthalmology practice by his brother, Dr. Donald Phillips. During his distinguished career, Dr. Phillips continued to expand his knowledge by becoming a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomat in the American Ophthalmological Association, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and many other esteemed professional organizations. Dr. Phillips was a highly regarded physician, who was best known for excellence in his work and for the kindness, compassion, and generosity he extended to those most in need.
Dr. Phillips is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Bettie Phillips; children, Wanda P. Merrill, Ronald Phillips and Glenn Phillips (Deborah); step-sons, Mac Hogue (Susan) and Kim Hogue (Cindy); grandsons, Ford Merrill (Rain), Cole Phillips (Brianna), Wesley Reeves (Taylor), and Austin Hogue; granddaughters, Jennifer Cloud (Michael), Nicole Hogue and Erin Landers (Hunter); niece, Lisa McLaughlin (Kevin), and many great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and a great nephew.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Phillips and his first wife, Marjoria Phillips.
His primary caregivers were Susan Lomax, Jontel Hawkins, Dominique Wilhite, Damion Wilhite. Their unwavering help and support were invaluable.
Graveside funeral services for Dr. B. Morris Phillips, 96, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Friday June 29, 2018 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA, the Reverend Canon Gregg L. Riley officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
