Funeral Services for Doyle R. Parker, 86, of Monroe will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 23,2012 at College Place Baptist Church, 301 Sherrouse Avenue, Monroe, LA with Dr. Bryant Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Parker was born as the bells were ringing in the New Year in Jackson, MS on January 1, 1926 and departed to his Heavenly home after a lengthy illness Sunday Evening at his home on the bayou.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Love and Beulah Alice Hegwood Parker; his brother and sister, Wayne Parker and Wilma Parker Burkhart; and 2 sons, Murray Orion Parker and Gregory Samuel Parker.
Mr. Parker graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1943 and served as a Navigator/Pilot/Bombardier with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW2. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana Junior College after the war and in 1950 obtained a degree from Louisiana Tech. He also attended LSU graduate school in 1952-53 where he met his future bride. He was a member and served as President of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, was the editor of the Pow Wow Newspaper and usually could be found at every NLU home Football game cheering on his Indians. He was an avid supporter of the NLU School of Music and a lover of the written word till the end.
Mr. Parker owned and operated Snow White Cleaners for over 50 years where he designed the mascot “Toppy the Snowman” and enjoyed serving his many customers from all over the South. One of his favorite sayings was “The only one who can truly remove all spots is Jesus Christ”. He was proud of the scores of young people who obtained their college degrees while in his employ. He and his wife, Sue, joined College Place Baptist Church in February of 1954 where he served as a Sunday school teacher of high school boys, Director of Discipleship Training, sang in the choir, drove the church vans for youth choir and puppet trips, was the Church Treasurer for over 30 years and a lifetime deacon.
He was a charter member of the Northeast Monroe Rotary Club, an officer and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a member of Gideon’s International and loved to distribute Bibles on the school campuses. His greatest joy in life was serving others.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Ella Sue Gates Parker; his children, Dr. Doyle Randall Parker and wife Avee, Dr. Waylon Morris Parker and wife Peggy, Melissa Susan Parker Wiygul and husband Gary; his grandchildren, Adam Everett Parker and wife Angela, Suzanne Kathryn Parker Causey and husband Chad, and Henry Addison Wiygul; his great grandchildren, Mia Thai Causey, Nathan Hans Causey, Aidalyn Grayce Parker and Parker Andrew Causey.
Pallbearers will be Parrish Alford, Chad Causey, Danny Chisholm, Seth Meredith, Adam Parker and Gary Wiygul. Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Sivils and Willis Watson.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 5-8 pm at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road.
