Doyle Pierce Wheat

November 14, 1936 — November 21, 2020

Private Graveside Services for Doyle Wheat were held at Luna Assembly of God Cemetery on November 23, 2020 with Rev. Joel Bracket officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.

Doyle Pierce Wheat was born on November 14, 1936 in the Luna Community located outside of West Monroe Louisiana. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on the morning of November 21, 2020. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Alice Wheat siblings Elbert Thomas, Karey Lee Thomas, Eilene Burke and Florence Evans.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years Glinda Carolyn Wheat; children: Bart Wheat (Dawn), Chanda Harbor (Dena), Niece: Sherry Ramshur (Tommy), four grandchildren Emily Shirey (Ty), Kaitlyn Grekoff (Andrew), Drew Harbor, Colin Wheat, great nephew Josh Ramshur, two great grandchildren Liam and Roman Shirey; his brother John Wheat (Brenda) and sister Ila Mae Burnett (Mac).

Doyle grew up in the Luna Community and was a veteran of the United States Navy. In his early years he worked as a Lineman for WS Young, before enrolling at Louisiana Polytechnical Institute majoring in Electrical Engineering. He graduated in 1969 and accepted a position at Louisiana Power and Light. Throughout his career he accepted increasing levels of responsibility with LP&L (now Entergy) until he retired in 1997.

He passed on the desire to be a LA Tech grad, a love for the Dodgers, Golf, a love for history, and a unique sense of humor. We are proud to say so many of these things were passed down to his family.

Doyle served the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully and led many people to the Lord. He served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. His last night on this earth was spent talking about his desire to serve God and our hope fulfilled in Christ is our Savior. Never was there a man who set such a Godly example. We say goodbye knowing that he is now in the presence of the One he loved most. And we have no doubt, we’ll see him when we get there.
