Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mr. Douglas N. Benson, Jr., 75, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, LA with Rev. Danny Chance, Mr. Tammy Matthews and Mr. Don Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., Friday, December 17, 2021, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA, and also, from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Saturday.
Mr. Benson was born on December 3, 1946 and passed away on December 15, 2021. Doug loved antique cars and trucks, bikes, pedal cars, and tractors. He also enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique furniture, fluent oil painting, and writing poetry. Most of all, Doug loved his wife beyond measure as well as his children, grandchildren, and his dogs Freckles and Runt. He was delighted to have just gained a new granddaughter in law.
Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents, Okey and Fannie Benson and Talmage and Lucille Hines, father, Douglas Benson, Sr. and his son, Shannon Douglas Benson.
Survivors include his wife, Dana St. Vgine Benson; mother, Helen Doris Hines Benson Sullivan; children, Benjamin Lee Benson, Jason Edward Benson (Crystal), Jennifer Leah Benson, and Brandy Lynne Taylor; daughter-in-law, Vicki Lynn Benson; grandchildren, Jacob D. Benson (Ashley), Austin H. Benson, Landon M. Benson, Jacye N. Benson, Oscar N. Benson, Madison R. Bernice, Preston S. Bernice, and Malorie E. Taylor; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jacob Benson, Austin Benson, Landon Benson, Jayce Benson, Oscar Benson, and Preston Bernice.
Honorary Pallbearers will be David Frost, Ralph Little, Red Kerns, Chuck Reddin, Jimmy Davis, and Carlton Traweek, Jr.
The family would like to give a Special Thanks to the MICU Nursing staff, Critical Care Doctors, Pulmonology and Nephrology Staffs at St. Francis Medical Center for the loving care that was given not only to Doug, but to the family as well.
