Family and friends will gather at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe to celebrate the life of Dorothy Mae Halley Bryant, 87. Dr. E. Whit Holmes, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church will be officiating.
“Dot” was born March 4, 1921 in Bastrop, LA.
Her life did not end. Rather, she passed through the gateway to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Her Christian faith was exampled to all those who knew her.
She always looked for and saw the good and beauty in people.
She loved vocal and piano music and sang in several church choirs in the area during her years in Monroe.
She studied voice with Estelle Sanders and delighted in performing in the concerts.
She was a valued employee for 34 years with Troy & Nichols Insurance Co.
She was a member of Parkview Baptist for the past 31 years.
She became a resident of Azalea Estates in 2004. This became her new community where she made many new friends. Because of her compassion she was the “mother hen” to many people there and always eager to assist others.
Dot will be remembered for her laughter, beautiful smile, and gentle manners.
She was a kind, generous, and loving friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Benjamin Bryant, parents, Mae and John Halley, Sr. of Bastrop, and brother, William Halley, Sr. of Baton Rouge. She is survived by Brother John E. Halley, Sr., Baton Rouge, aunt, Willie C. Midyett, Shreveport, sister-in-law, Gladys Halley, Baton Rouge, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends at Azalea Estates.
Close friends who cherish special times with her are Ruth Bramble Adams and family, Bessie Shaw and family, and Melba and Carlos Brown and family.
They will miss her terribly but they rejoice that she is “Home”.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Culp, Barney Howard, Brady Howard, Horace Millican, Billy Bell, and David Tyler.
The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the service in Mulhearn chapel.
Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to her Parkview Church family and other friends who
faithfully called, sent cards and visited her, to Medi-Star Home Health and the Azalea
Estates Staff and Residents who enriched her life each day.
Deep appreciation to Dr. Dean Stockstill for his compassion and honest approach regarding her
very serious illness, and for Kandace, Willie Mae, Kristen, and Denise with Hospice Family Alliance who ministered to her in her final time of need is such a beautiful way as they provided her with the Comfort Care she has stated she desired.
And to her sitters Vickie, Joyce, Sherry, and Ollie—may God continue to bless your lives. You certainly did bless Mrs. Dot.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her honor to Parkview Baptist Church, Hospice Family Alliance 111 Hudson Lane, Monroe, or to the charity of your choice.
Interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park.
