Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Powell, 87, of Sterlington, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2017, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA, with Rev. Prentis Gandy officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy was born October 10, 1929, in Athens, LA, and passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, in Monroe, LA.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ovid and Mattie Gandy; sister, Helen Gandy Powell; brothers, Prentis Gandy, Harold Gandy and Clyde Gandy; great grandson, Codye Mardis; and husband, Melvin Powell.

Survivors include her brother, Dale Gandy; children, Dennis Powell and wife Darla, Janice Chapman and husband Jimmy; grandchildren, Michael Powell, Michelle Powell, Matt Powell and wife Ericka, Julie Beckley and husband Steve, Clay Chapman and wife Connie, Brooke Harris and husband Matt; great grandchildren, Cameron Beckley, Caden Beckley, Cole Beckley, Aubrey Powell and Wyatt Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Clay Chapman, Michael Powell, Matt Powell, Bill Powell, Jimmy Powell and Jared Powell.

Visitation will be 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff and friends of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
