Dorothy (Dot) Bennett Searcy

August 19, 1919 — July 29, 2011

Dot left this world on angels’ wings July 29, 2011, just 3 weeks shy of her 92nd birthday. She was born on August 19, 1919 to Charles Gordon and Nell Terrell Bennett. She lived in Monroe for over 80 years before moving to Dallas in 2004 to be near her family. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and Northeast Louisiana Junior College where she honed her remarkable secretarial skills. Dot worked for many years for the American Cancer Society before accepting a position at Neville High School in 1982. During her 22 years at Neville as an administrative secretary, she loved the staff and students as if they were her 2nd family and this love was truly reciprocated.

Dot loved to dance, to work in her yard, to cook and share recipes and to travel any opportunity she had, especially if it involved her grandchildren. She was a member of the Junior League of Monroe and served as treasurer of the Town and Country Garden Club for over 40 years. She was also a long time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Dot always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help someone in need. She was compassionate, caring and generous and will be dearly missed by all of her families and friends. Her gentle, gracious nature touched many, many people throughout her lifetime.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles E. Searcy; and sister, Eleanor Cagle. She is survived by daughter, Judy Dryden (John) of Dallas, TX; son, Dr. Steve Searcy (Rocks Ann) of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren, Searcy Dryden (Lesley) of New York, NY, Suzanna Jensen (Erik) of Dallas, TX, Dr. Lindsey Saterfiel (Drew) of Lafayette, LA, and Emily Searcy of Los Angeles, CA; and 3 great grandchildren, Madeline and John Dryden and Adam Jensen.

Dot’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the outstanding staff at the James L. West Alzheimer’s Center in Fort Worth, TX for their exceptional care and compassion. Their unconditional love and support during the last 5 years are sincerely appreciated.

Visitation will be held in Monroe at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, on Friday, August 5th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at 1901 Lexington Avenue on Saturday, August 6th at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to NAFA at Neville High School, 600 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA 71201 or the James L. West Center, 1111 Summit Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76102.
