Mrs. Dorothy Cascio Dixon of Monroe, LA, passed away in Houston, TX, on April 25, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Rd, Monroe, LA 71203, with the Rosary to begin at 6:30 P.M.
Dorothy was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on September 17, 1926. She graduated from St. Matthews High School and St. Francis Nursing School. She attended Washington University in St. Louis to become a nurse anesthetist, her lifelong career.
In 1951, she married Joe Dixon and through his military career, they travelled the world together. They began their adventures in Newfoundland and travelled extensively within the continental United States, Alaska and Europe. Among her many unique moments such as the opportunity to see Queen Elizabeth’s yacht on its Canadian visit immediately after her coronation, the Alaskan earthquake in 1964, and a multitude of others; her life consisted of rich and varied experiences that shaped her outlook on the world. Upon his retirement, they returned to Monroe. After his death, she spent her retirement traveling both with friends and family. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief stay in Houston.
Dorothy had an indomitable spirit and her mind remained sharp as a tack until the very end.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joe Dixon, as well as her parents, Eddie and Rosa Cascio and her siblings, Maria Cascio, Josephine Cascio and Edward Cascio. She is survived by 3 children: George Dixon, Judy Hawkins, and Michael (Lisa) Dixon; a sister, Geneva Cascio; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
