Mrs. Doris R. Johnson Lively Walters, 89, of Monroe, passed away at Landmark Nursing Home in West Monroe. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun with Rev. Mark Fenn officiating.
Doris was born June 7, 1920 in Choudrant, LA to William Franklin Ramsey and Nancy Ann Elizabeth Slaton. She was married to Thomas J. Johnson on July 8, 1941 until his death on July 23, 1972. She then married Joe H. Lively on May 3, 1973 and was married to him until his death on August 14, 1975. She then married Percy Eugene Walters from January 1, 1981 until his death January 1, 1990.
She was a 1940 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. She worked as a secretary at the Louisiana Training Institute and the State Probation/Parole office in Monroe. From there, she became Ouachita Parish Assistant Chief Juvenile Officer where she retired.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe where she was a member of Joy Club. She was also a member of the Friend’s Birthday Club, Quota Club, Business and Professional Women’s Organization. Doris was also a member of the Monroe Red Shields, a softball team of the late 1940’s, which was coached by Red Sims.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Thomas J. Johnson, Joe H. Lively, Percy Eugene Walters; brothers, Marvin (Buddy) Ramsey, O.Z. Ramsey; sisters, Emma Lee Naron and Yvonne Hemphill; and a son-in-law, James H. Gilbert.
She is survived by daughters, Jackie (John) Bennett of Downsville, Lyndae Ann Gilbert of Monroe; grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Bennett, Jason (Paula) Bennett, Amy Caldwell, Janet (James) Watkins, Ann (Mark) Fenn, Susan (John) Mitchell, Stephen Gilbert; fifteen grandchildren; sister, Sarah Head; brother, Billy (Elaine) Ramsey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Bennett, Mark Bennett, Wayne Caldwell, Warren Ramsey, James Watkins, and Neil Bryant.
Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2010 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
