A private interment will be held at 9:00 AM Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the mausoleum chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park preceding visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Stubbs Avenue, Monroe. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the church with Dr. Bruce Rux presiding.
Mrs. McDowell was a native of Canada, having lived in Toronto for many years, later moving to Vancouver, and then Monroe. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years. She was also a member of the Monroe Garden Club, The Monroe Symphony League, DeNova Book Club, and Chapter AE of P.E.O.
Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. McDowell.
Survivors include her daughter, Gail L. Boggs of Cincinnati, OH and son, Robert F. McDowell and wife Susan of Monroe. Grandchildren are William C. McDowell of Memphis, TN, Robert A. McDowell of Corpus Christi, TX, John E. McDowell of Dallas, TX, Christopher Boggs of Garner, NC, and David Boggs and wife Margaret of Cincinnati, OH. Her great grandchildren are Lauren E. McDowell of Atlanta, GA, William and Cameron May McDowell, and Kristin Boggs, of Garner, NC.
Survivors also include her sister, Gladys Cobon Hurst of Oshawa, Ontario. Her Canadian nieces and nephews include Nancy Gibb and husband Allan, Russell Goheen and wife Nancy, and Tom Goheen and his daughter Lindsay; and also nephew, Michael Hurst and wife Tina of Taipei, Taiwan.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy R. Moore of Columbia, MO and Donald Ray Updegraff of Shreveport, LA.
