Doris Drewett Edwards

September 23, 1929 — December 10, 2016

Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Doris Drewett Edwards, 87, of West Monroe will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 12, 2016 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA with Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will follow at Nolley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jena, LA with a graveside service being held at 1:30 P.M.

Doris was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, where she faithfully attended the Ed Stinson Sunday School Class. Doris was active in the Cultura Book Club, as well as other organizations. Doris was a long time educator with Ouachita Parish Schools, where she served many years as a 5th Grade Teacher at Highland Elementary. She worked in the Migratory and Reading and Math specialist Programs, and also in the Media Center, where she was a supervisor with Title 1 program for the school system. One of her greatest assets was never meeting a stranger. She especially loved young children, probably why she was known as an exceptional educator. Doris also will be remembered for her quick wit, striking blue eyes, and the love she had for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lee Roy Edwards, Sr.; her parents; three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Edwards Painich and husband, Willie; son, Lee Roy Edwards, Jr. and partner, Tommy Gibson; grandsons, Daren Edward Moody and wife, Breean Fleming Moody, Benjamin Drewett Edwards and fiancé, Brooke Baber; granddaughter, Emily Edwards Gregory and husband, Gregg; great-grandchildren, Jack Edward Moody, Mae Marie Moody, Estelle Ruth Moody, Owen Lennon Gregory, Kaine, Kaiden, and Kaysen. Also surving Doris is brother, Clyde Patrick Drewett and wife, Sue; sister, Vicki Buckhalter and husband, John. Doris is also loved and was loved by a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of the Ed Stinson Sunday School Class.
