Dora Charrier, 86, of Monroe, and formerly of Chalmette, passed away on May 31, 2011 at the Northeast LA War Veterans Home.
Dora, a devoted wife and loving mother, was an expert seamstress, superb cook and licensed cosmetologist. She owned and operated a beauty salon for 30 years before retirement.
Dora had the distinction of being the first veteran’s spouse to be admitted to the Northeast LA War Veterans Home where she spent three weeks with her husband of 67 years, Horace, before his passing in March, 2011.
Survivors include a son, H. David Charrier, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; a brother, Albert Alwell of Deville, LA; special grand nieces, Paulette Cappel and Cindy Dwyer, both of Monroe; as well as, Robyn Dewhirst of New Orleans; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
The family would like to thank Antonia "Toni" Gordon and the staffs of the Northeast LA War Veterans Home and Cornerstone Hospital for their caring and devoted service.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Chalmette at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 25th, with Dr. John Dee Jefferies presiding. Visitation will be at 9:30 AM until service time.
