Funeral Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Donna Sue McNabb Finley, 81, of Monroe, LA, will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 5, 2018, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Sikes officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Finley was born September 1, 1937, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 30, 2018. She attended Lake D’Arbonne Chapel in Farmerville. Mrs. Finley was a retired teacher from Robinson Elementary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mona Belle Carter McNabb.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dr. Richard Finley; three children, Dr. David Finley (Valerie), Dawn Ballard, and Dee Robinson (Tommy); eight grandchildren, Megan Hardy (Derek), Jana Robinson, Rachel Robinson, Ashton Finley, PFC. Kaleb Finley, USMC, Chloe Ballard, Kristin Finley, and Coalton Finley; siblings, Max McNabb, Beverly Kiger (Joe), Monna Kay Campbell (Dr. Paul); sisters-in-law, Claudia Young (Dr. Dan), and Jean Anne Finley; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donna Sue was born and raised in Catoosa, OK. She was a coal miner’s daughter, a member of a singing trio called the Syncopates, a Charter Member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Majority Member, and held State Offices for this Organization. She was also a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Masonic Organization and a Charter Member of the Catoosa Historical Society. In college, she met the love of her life, Richard Finley, who as the Captain of the Northeastern Redmen Football Team, crowned her the 1957 Homecoming Queen. After marrying Richard in 1958, they lived in Colorado, Wyoming, where she received her B.S. in Elementary Ed, then lived in Oklahoma for a few years, and finally settled in Monroe, LA. Donna Sue spent her career as a 2nd Grade Teacher at Robinson Elementary. She was loved by all of her students, many telling her as adults that she was their favorite childhood teacher. After retiring from the Ouachita Parish School System, Donna enjoyed spending time loving and serving her family and enjoying the Lakehouse.
Pallbearers will be PFC. Kaleb Finley, USMC, Ashton Finley, Coalton Finley, Tommy Robinson, Bill Ballard, Rodney Traweek, and Dr. Harrington Watson, III.
The Family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Sampognaro, Dr. Frank Weinholt, Nurses Bridgett and Beth, and Care Givers Shonta and Kiki for their loving care of Donna Sue.
