Graveside services for Mr. Donald C. Tippen, Sr., 88, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Friday June 19, 2020 at Newton Baptist Church Cemetery in Delhi, LA with Rex Barker officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Mulhearn’s.
Don was born February 25 , 1932 in Chatham, LA and passed away June 15, 2020 in West Monroe, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Tippen and Amy Robinson; brother, Alson V. Tippen and his wife, Verla; sisters, Aral Ellis, Varal Cockerham and husband, W. O., Colleen Chatham and husband, Doyle, and Amy Barker and husband, Bobby.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Darlene Tippen; children, Donald C. (Clay) Tippen, Jr. (wife, Diane), Bryan Keith Tippen (wife, Theresa), Steven A Tippen (wife, Darla) and Amy Nugent (husband, Kyle); 12 grandchildren, Brooke Ashely Tippen, Ashlyn Edwards, Savanna Edwards, Frances Julianne Tippen, Bryan Keith Tippen, Jr., Steven Brent Tippen, Stephanie Lynne Tippen, Steven Tyler Tippen, Hunter Tippen, Ben Netherland, Lilyana Solis, and Taylyn Tippen; 5 Great Grandchildren, Brakston, Brice, Baylor, Konnor, Jillian Elizabeth Tippen, and one on the way; one brother, Dervis Tippen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don graduated from Chatham High School and shortly after joined the U.S. Air Force. After four years, his most memorable assignment was in Greenland. Immediately after his return home, he enrolled at NLU, graduating with a B.A. in business. He was employed by Ouachita National Bank the day after his graduation. He was employed with ONB for 30 years, ultimately being promoted to Sr. Vice President before retiring. He began new employment at First American Bank, now Regions Bank, as Executive Vice President. During his banking career, Don graduated from the LSU graduate school of banking, and then the University of Oklahoma, Certified Commercial Lender Program. Don continued his education by attending and teaching service banking classes at NLU. During his employment with the bank he served several terms on the Board of Directors at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, the Board of Directors with the Louisiana Arthritis Foundation, and the Louisiana Heart Association. He also served on the Board of Directors with the Lotus Club and was a charter member of the Monroe Sertoma. Mr. Tippen was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe, and the West Monroe Rotary Club as well as serving with many other civic organizations.
