Dolores Ann Gonzales Johnson

Dolores Ann Johnson, a retired typesetter, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the age of 85 after a brief battle with heart failure.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Kelly Shambro and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Anthony Shambro, Alex Shambro and his wife, Brittney, Kristen Shambro, and Allison Shambro Hall and her husband, Andrew; great grandchildren, Sierra, Winston, and Julian Shambro; and several close cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Frances Gonzales; aunts, Wilma Bennett, Olga McLemore, Lucille Cantrell, and Lucretia Gibson; uncle, Otho Lee Patton; and her granddaughter, Lauren Shambro.

Dolores was born in Monroe on May 26, 1938. Dolores was a loving single mother to her daughter, Kelly. She went to work at Letter Service Bureau in the mid-1960s where she stayed until her retirement. She was a devout Christian and faithfully played the organ for over 50 years at several area churches, including:  Central Baptist Church, Lakeshore Baptist Church, and Forest Glade Baptist Church. Her passion for playing the organ at her church began when she was 12 and eventually led to her majoring in organ performance at Northeast Louisiana State College. She enjoyed watching musicals, reading, completing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family and her beloved dogs, Ginger, Sadie, and Bailey. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at St Francis’ CVRU for the love and care given to Dolores during her final days. A special thank you to Dr. Morehead and nurses, Bethany, Christine, Chris, Scott, and Baylie for the extra attention given to Dolores during this time.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 23, 2023, at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dolores’s memory to the United Way of Northeast Louisiana or a charity of your choice.
