Dollie Mae Cass Clayton was born on August 12, 1923. She passed peacefully to her heavenly home on January 21, 2025. Dollie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Susie Cook Cass and Clyde Cass.
Dollie attended school in Rayville, Louisiana. As a young lady, she enjoyed Girl Scouts and attending church at First Baptist Church of Rayville. She graduated from Rayville High School and attended Nursing School in Vicksburg, Mississippi and later at Northeast Junior College in Monroe.
America entrance into World War II saw millions of brave American women of all races volunteer to join the fight. Dollie decided to stop her college studies to join the United States Coast Guard, the SPARS. Dollie served proudly in the United States Coast Guard in military communications. She received an honorable discharge at the conclusion of her service.
Dollie met her husband, Howard Clayton, while serving in the United States Coast Guard. He was also a United States Coast Guard Seaman. They later married and had two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Clayton King and Mrs. Barbara Clayton Keegan. Dollie returned to Rayville after her service time, she worked at several Rayville businesses. She ended her working years as an insurance agent at Fred Morgan Insurance Agency.
Dollie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rayville, Louisiana. She lovingly served her God and church for many years as the secretary for the four and five year old Sunday School Classes of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Clayton is preceded in death by her parents, Susie Cook Cass and Clyde Cass; a son, Douglas Clayton; and a granddaughter, Susan Barron.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl King and husband Mark, Barbara Keegan and husband Ron; two granddaughters, Melissa King and Kimberly Barron; and one great-grand-daughter, Ashley Moore.
Memorial Donations in the memory of Mrs. Dollie Clayton may be made to the Rayville First Baptist Children’s Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Deerfield Nursing Home, Crossroads Hospice, Dr. Corey Albritton; as well as Mrs. Dollie Clayton’s friends and church family of Rayville First Baptist Church.
Honoring to serve as pallbearers for Mrs. Clayton, will be Grover Burgess, Fred Lambert, Jim Adams, Richard Letlow, Bill Green, and Mike Sullivan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2025, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, with Dr. Justin Clark officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville.
