A Funeral mass for Mrs. Delmar D. Gulick, 90, of West Monroe, La., longtime resident of Baton Rouge, La. will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge with Rev. Gerald H. Burns officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at St. Josephs Abby in Covington, La. under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, La.

Mrs. Gulick died February 28, 2008 in West Monroe, La.

Mrs. Gulick was born on Delmar Plantation near Alexandria, raised in Ville Platte and received two B.A. degrees and her M.A. from LSU. She taught 10th grade English at Lee High School in Baton Rouge for 19 years, retiring in 1978. She was an active member of Retired Teachers of Louisiana.

She lived on Stuart Ave. in Baton Rouge from 1947 until 2003 and was a charter member of St. Aloysius Parish having helped take the census to St. Agnes to petition for a chapel in the Southdown area. She remained active in many church functions into her eighties. She also founded the Parkinson Support Group in Baton Rouge and started a grief support group at St. Aloysius Parish.

She was preceded in death by Walter C. Gulick, her husband of 56 years and Walter H. Gulick her eldest son.

Survivors: three sons, Lewis Gulick of Eugene, OR, David Gulick of Honolulu, HI, and Thomas Gulick of Calhoun, LA; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Pallbearers will be sons, Lewis, David, and Thomas Gulick, nephew, Jack Philley, and grandsons, Ben and John Gulick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phillip Tucker, Jeff Hildebrand, Fred Anepohl and Richard Edwards.

In the Parish Bulletin of Feb. 4, 1979, Mrs. Gulick was described as follows: “… within the impeccably groomed little Dresden figurine of a lady, is a spine that spells character, a heart that overflows with love of God, family and other people’s children.” and “Loving, sharing, working, caring; these are a few of her favorite things.” Her hobby was helping others.
