Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mr. David Drayton Rodgers, Jr., 92, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA with Dr. Jim Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Mr. Rodgers was born on October 21, 1926, and passed away on January 25, 2019. He was an Electrical Engineer with BellSouth Telephone Company and was a member of Ridge Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he was recognized as Deacon Emeritus. Mr. Rodgers served in the United States Navy during WWII. Immediately following WWII, he served in Operation Crossroads. He enjoyed his annual family “Reunions,” trips which he started as gifts to his children 30 years ago.
Mr. Rodgers is preceded in death by his parents, David and Bessie Rodgers, and his sister, Rebecca Rodgers Byrd.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Josephine Strong Rodgers; children, Jeri Rodgers Beachy (Bruce), Teri Rodgers Fontenot (John), David Andy Rodgers (Carol), Ginny Rodgers Maxcy (Alan) and Joey Rodgers (Jeri); grandchildren, Katy Beachy, Dorrie Beachy, Cynthia Beachy, Sarah Fontenot, Kari Fontenot Jackson (Trevor), Rebecca Rodgers Dunne (Tim), David Rodgers, Rachel Maxcy, Joshua Maxcy, Jillian Maxcy, Drayton Rodgers, and Emily Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Callie, Emma, Kaiya, and Isabelle.
Memorials may be made to Ridge Avenue Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 30, 2019, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Patricia White, Regina Kindrick, and Michelle Robinson for the love and care given to Mr. Dave during his illness.
