Daran Hines Reeves was born on September 13, 1963, and tragically departed this earthly life on March 26th after a long and valiant fight against the Covid 19 virus. The doctors said Daran was the sickest Covid patient they have seen to survive as long as he did, that is because he is a fighter. We take comfort knowing that our D is in heaven, dancing with the Lord, and is at peace and no longer suffering.
Daran was a winner in all his endeavors with a charismatic personality. Everyone who encountered Daran wanted to be like him or with him and usually both. Daran was a selfless man who inspired many with his positive influence. Although Daran left this earthly life too early at the age of 57, he achieved so much in his lifetime, touching countless lives along the way.
Daran was a loving Christian man and an ideal son to his loving parents, Linda and Terry Lamar Reeves. He starred in athletics as a boy and young man, particularly in basketball. After a stellar high school basketball career at Neville High School, Daran went on to play college basketball at the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he excelled as well. Wherever Daran went success and winning followed as did legions of friends who adored him and to whom he was fiercely loyal. If Daran Reeves was your friend, you knew he “had your back” and that you could count on him in good times and in bad. As is typical of a great leader, Daran was not only a winner but made others feel like a winner as well. This leadership was a theme throughout his business and his personal life. When Daran turned his talents to business and the insurance industry the result was bound to be unparalleled success. He proceeded to build one of the largest insurance agencies in Louisiana with offices not only in the Monroe/West Monroe area but also in Shreveport, Opelousas, Alexandria, and Marksville. Daran’s agency, Reeves, Coon & Funderburg, became well known throughout Louisiana which culminated in its partnership with Origin Bank thereby creating a regional agency in multiple states.
When Daran wasn’t engaged in business activities, he was either spending time with his beloved family, playing sports, hunting or just entertaining his friends, as he was known to do. Known by nicknames such as “Dewitt” (or “Bird” by his basketball buddies) Daran charmed every group of people he encountered. His dynamic personality and sense of humor entertained his friends for hours on end. Whether at the hunting camp, on his annual “Woo Woo” golf trip or simply at dinner, Daran was the light in the room. Many friends suggested he could have been a professional comedian or, for that matter, anything he put his mind to.
With all the achievements and “wins” that Daran enjoyed, none was greater than winning the heart of his beloved and cherished wife, Yvette, and the raising of their three sons into the fine young men they are today. Daran lived with love and taught their boys how to stand tall through any situation. His glass half full mentality made him a positive role model. Daran’s fierce determination to win against any odds built up Thomas, Taylor & Matt to persevere against any obstacle in their path. He was the rock and the guiding light through any darkness.
Aside from forays to his hunting camp at Hogue Island with his boys and the “Woo Woo” trip, he shared a fun filled life with Yvette to whom he was wholeheartedly devoted. They traveled together, worked together and spent nearly every waking hour together. Their deep love for each other was apparent to anyone who encountered them and their love for and devotion to their boys was obvious to all. As family and friends have said, they have seen no greater love than the love shared between Daran & Yvette. They were best friends and each other’s rock through good times and bad. What they accomplished in 18 years of marriage is what people of 50 years hope to accomplish.
Daran will be dearly missed by his family, dozens of close friends and hundreds of others for reasons that are too many to count: his sense of humor, his magnetic personality, his fierce loyalty to his family and friends, his leadership and kindness to those who needed his uplifting friendship, and, most of all, the love he gave to all around him.
Daran is survived by his loving wife Yvette Rodrigue Reeves, his three sons, Thomas, Taylor and his wife Stacee, and Matt, along with his grandchildren, Jackson and Collins Reeves. He is survived by his loving parents, Linda and Terry Reeves, his grandmother, Sally Hines, father and mother-in-law Roddy and Barbara Rodrigue, his brother Donald and his wife Amanda, sisters and brothers-in-law Denise and Danny LaFleur, Michelle (Kitty) and Brent Sheppard, nieces and nephews, Analeise and her husband John Thomas, John Clay Reeves, Ian and Alex LaFleur, and his niece Sophie Sheppard, whom he adored, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of special friends.
The family would like to thank Daran’s entire medical team at Glenwood and St. Francis Medical Center.
A very special thank you to Dr. Kelly White, one of Daran and Yvette’s best friends, who was instrumental in making sure Daran got the best care, possible, and for guiding Yvette and their boys through this difficult battle.
An immediate family only graveside service was held on April 1st, officiated by Reverend John Mabray. A celebration of Daran’s life will be held on Saturday, April 24 at 1pm, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic church.
