A celebration of the life of Daniel (Dan) Edward Vanderhoeven, 79, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Garvin officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Dan was born November 5, 1938 in Alexandria, LA and died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, in Monroe. After graduating from Bolton High School, Dan attended LSU before graduating from Northeast Louisiana State University in 1962 where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Upon graduation he went to work for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, with which he eventually became district manager. After being transferred to several cities in Texas, in hopes of moving closer to home, he went to work for BF Goodrich as a district manager in Lafayette. Eventually he and his family moved to Bastrop where he was in the tire and furniture business, before moving to Monroe. He went to work for Jim Taylor Chevrolet until his retirement two years ago. He loved to garden and fish, sharing the fruits of his labors. Dan was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Mr. Vanderhoeven was preceded in death by his mother and father, Doris Didier Vanderhoeven and James Jesse Vanderhoeven; in-laws, Henry Kirt and Hugh Miller Touchstone; sisters, Ann LaCroix and Jean Lee.
Fifty-three years ago, Dan met and married the love of his life, Helen Touchstone Vanderhoeven. They considered each other to be their very best friend and a marriage made in heaven. He and Helen were blessed with 4 children, Helen V. Ducoté and husband Edmond, Nancy V. Buchan and husband Ken, Jessica V. LaCaze and husband Kenneth, and Dan (Danny) Vanderhoeven, Jr. and wife Kimberly; plus 6 precious grandchildren who were treasures in his heart, Catherine and Caroline Buchan, Erin and Landry Ducoté, and Cade and Jessi Vanderhoeven; many nieces and nephews; brother, James J. Vanderhoeven; sister, Linda V. Collison; sister-in-law, Jan Doege; and brother-in-law, Dr. Kirt Touchstone and wife Peggy.
Pallbearers will be Jay Dixon Johnston, Henry Kirt Touchstone III, John Walter James, James Francis Trotter, Jr., James Bartley Vanderhoeven, and Bishop Johnston.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and a Vigil Wake Service at 6:30 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hugh and Kirt Touchstone Scholarship Fund at ULM, Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Building Fund, Food Bank of NELA, American Heart Association, or to the charity of your choice.
