Buster was born on May 14, 1943, in Clarks, LA and passed away July 6, 2024.
Buster was a special man to so many people. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a loving grandson to Maw Josie, caring son to his parents, and favorite brother to his sisters.
After many years of service, working at Graphic Packaging, he retired in 2006. He was a welder in the maintenance and fire department. While there, he developed many lifelong friendships.
When he wasn’t working, he always stayed busy: woodworking, gardening, growing muscadines and making his famous muscadine jelly and baking. Just the thought of his peanut butter cake could start mouths watering.
The love of his life and best friend was Sandy Haley Whittington who he met at the Monroe skating rink. It didn’t take long before she had rolled into his heart forever. They dated for 3 years and were married on January 25, 1963, and made beautiful memories together for 61 years.
He was the best daddy in the world to Amy, Penny and Matt and special niece, Becky. He was always so proud of them. He was also proud of his grand and great grandkids to who he was known as Papaw, Papaw Buster and the “money man.”
He also proudly held the title of uncle. He loved his many nieces and nephews, and they loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wade Franklin Whittington; mother, Opal Legg Kemp; sister, Dian Malone; and brother-in-law, Morgan Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Haley Whittington; children, Amy Alexander and husband, Mike, Penny Hutson and husband, Rick, Matt Whittington and wife, Frances, and very special extra daughter, Becky Babin; grandchildren, Zachary Morris and wife, Meagan, Adam Alexander and wife, Chessi, Stephanie Stephens and husband, James, Nic Hutson, Liam Whittington, and Jonas Whittington; great grandchildren, Whittington Morris, Virginia Morris, Violet Morris, Azlyn Alexander, and Elsielayne Alexander; sister, Charlotte Crawford; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Harrell and Nita Bucklew; brother-in-law, Kerry Malone, and beloved friends, Ken Brooks and Johnny Gregory; along with many special nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Brooks, Johnny Gregory, Kerry Malone, Mike Alexander, and Rick Hutson.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
There was - and ever will be - only one Buster – He was one of a kind.
