Private family services for Mrs. Cynthia Price LaFrance, 94, of Monroe, will be held Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Rick Crandall officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Mrs. LaFrance was born July 16, 1913 in Centerville, MS and died January 24, 2008 at Trinity Village Nursing Home in Pine Bluff, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford LaFrance; sister, Selma Wester; and granddaughter, Dana Delyn LaFrance.
Survivors include her children, Clifford LaFrance of Tyler, TX, Stephen LaFrance and wife Linda of Pine Bluff, AR, Billy LaFrance and wife Emily of Georgetown, TX, and Gretchen Hamel and husband Freddie of West Monroe, LA; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. LaFrance was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, and the family would like to thank the members of The Ladies Circle for their prayers and correspondence with their mother over the last years. Mrs. LaFrance, along with her husband, owned and operated Mason LaFrance Dress Shop where many long lasting and loving friendships were made. She was an accomplished poet, writer, and artist. She was a member of The Louisiana Poetry Society and Louisiana Pen Women. Her works were published in Louisiana Leaders by Louisiana Pen Women and Vignettes of Louisiana History: Sketches and Text by Louisiana Pen Women. Numerous poems by Cynthia were published by the Louisiana Poetry Society and she published Words to Spare, a collection of verses dealing mainly with family and times over a period of forty-seven years. Cynthia also wrote Thursday’s Children, a Cajun love story in which she shared her precious memories of raising us, her four children, who were all born on a Thursday.
