Private immediate family only services for Col. Carey D. Walker, US Army, Ret., 73, of Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 9:00 AM, Monday, May 18, 2020, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road Monroe, with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana.
Carey was born September 4, 1946 in Delhi, Louisiana, and passed from this life at home in Monroe, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family and friends on May 15, 2020. He served his country in US Army for 28 years, later retiring as a Colonel. During that time he also served in the Vietnam War. He later went on to serve on the Ouachita Parish School Board for 24 years. Carey was also a member of Lea Joyner Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, SD Walker and Gladys Thrower Walker; and brothers, Charles D. Walker and Larry Doak Walker.
He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Janet Barnes Walker; daughters, Allison Griffin and husband Jonathan, and Ashley Lewis and husband John; sister, Cherrie Walker; brothers, Bobby D. Walker and wife, Sandy, John D. Walker and wife, Joyce, and Hershel Walker and wife, Susan; sister-in-law, Caressa Clack Walker; and four granddaughters, the joy of his life, Parker and Olivia Lewis, and Adelynn and Teagan Griffin.
Due to the current pandemic situation, the family will be holding a memorial to celebrate his life at a later time.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their care to Mr. Walker.
