Funeral Services celebrating the Life of Christine Ella Welch, 100 years old, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, March 11, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, Louisiana, with Reverend Woods Watson and Reverend Michael Wood officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Christine was born on April 16, 1922, in Tullos, Louisiana, and passed away on March 5, 2023, in Monroe, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Everett Oliver Welch; her parents, Roy and Bertie Welch; sisters, Christella and Jimmy; brother, Roy, Jr.; grandsons, Jonathon Stovall and Philip Aaron Soignier; and son-in-law, Elbert Leon “Bubba” Via, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Welch Via, Sharon Welch Duffey (Ronnie), and Toni Welch Hendon (Jason); grandchildren, Kim Via Lewing, Shelly Duffey Stovall (Steven), Spencer Floyd (Lea), Christopher Floyd; 14 great grandchildren; and 12 great, great grandchildren and “Mammaw” to a number of friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Dunn, John Dunn, Jimmy Dunn, Robbie Duffey, Christopher Floyd, Matthew Arendsen, Brian Moore, and Luke Soignier.
Christine was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe where she was a prayer warrior in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. She was a member of the Agape Life Group (Sunday School) Class. She served as the Nobel Grand and District Deputy President of the Monroe Rebekah Lodge #66. She was a member of the International Association of Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs. She served as Louisiana State President of the Woodmen of the World. In 1982, she received the Service Award for Outstanding Service as well as Women of Woodcraft award for her faithful service.
Christine was a beautician and owned her own shop for several years. She was blessed with many talents. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, painting, working in her yard, and traveling. She set as one of her goals to make a quilt for each of her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, which she accomplished.
She loved studying the Bible. In her more recent years, she loved sitting on her porch or patio enjoying the beauty of each day.
Christine, called “Mammaw” by many, even some 70+ year olds, will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home.
