Funeral service for Mrs. Christina Romano Purvis, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Martina and Rev. Richard Norsworthy officiating. Interment will follow at St. Matthew Catholic Church Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
 
Mrs. Purvis passed away on February 23, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Purvis was an honor graduate of St. Matthew’s High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University, Bish Mathis Business College and the College of Advanced Traffic. She was a devoted and faithful employee, as a rate clerk and cashier, working in the freight business for over 45 years and retiring with Yellow Freight Company. Mrs. Purvis was a very active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and held the office of Regent (President) with the Catholic Daughters of America. Other organizations she belonged to include the Columbus Social Club, Progressive Men’s Club Auxiliary,  Y.W.C.A. Career Club,  Business Professional Women’s Club, Traffic and Transportation Organization, and was an officer and president of the “Twin City Singles.” She received the Catholic Daughter of the Year Award, a Certificate of Recognition from Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo for her devotion and duty; and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Twin City Singles.
     
Mrs. Purvis was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josephine Romano; husband, Leo Purvis; brother, Vincent Romano; sister-in-law, Ora Strand; and a brother in infancy.
 
Survivors include her son, David Purvis and his wife Sheri; step daughter, Carolyn Jobe; brothers, Joseph A. Romano and wife Sylvia; grandchildren, Edward Leo Purvis and wife Melissa, David Jay Purvis, Jr., Crystal Kulp and husband Kyle, Sr., and Alisha Lewis and husband Brandon; numerous step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Romano; an adopted granddaughter, Mickey Manchester; and number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Pallbearers will be Berrick Devereux, Daniel Devereux, Kyle Kulp, David Jay Purvis, Jr., Brandon Lewis, and Harry Sellers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe A. Marsala, Sr., Anthony J. Danna, Joseph “Chuck” Romano, and Ed Shoemaker.
 
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home with a Vigil Wake service to be held at 7:00PM.
