Chin-Hai Tu

A memorial service for Mr. Chin-Hai Tu, 87, of Farmerville, LA, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe, LA, with Very Reverend Peter B. Mangum, JCL, VF, officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA. Entombment will be at a later date in Grand Coteau, LA.

Chin-Hai Tu, or Bernard as he was known to his friends, was born in the province of Szechuan, China in 1937. He immigrated to Taiwan when he was still a child, met his wife, Shao-Chiung, and raised a family of three children. He was, first and foremost, a dreamer at heart. He first pursued a career in political science in Taiwan and worked as the Assistant Secretary of Education for a time. He was later struck by inspiration to start a business venture in Brazil. After several years, hoping to provide more opportunities to his children, he took the leap to immigrate to the US with the help of his brothers. He and his wife worked extremely hard to build a life in a brand-new country and sacrificed much to establish their family in Louisiana as a restaurateur. He was distinguished by an immense pride for his family, including his parents, wife, siblings, children, and grandchildren. He most loved the freedom of spending time outdoors - especially fishing, travelling, the art of Chinese calligraphy, and music. He was a pious man and a strong member of his rural church communities in Minden and Farmerville. He had a large impact on every person he met with his infectious smile, enthusiasm for life, and his natural charisma. He leaves behind many friends and family who will dearly miss him.

Mr. Tu was preceded in death by his parents, Chin-Yiu Tu and Ja Yuen Tu; his sister in early childhood; and his brother, Dr. C.K. Tu.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shao-Chiung Tu; brother, Francis Tu (Yolande); sister-in-law, Carol Tu; children, Szu-Ping Tu, Szu-Wei Domingue (Chris), and Jen-Liang Tu (Aiyueh); grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Di (Stephanie), Dr. Natalie Domingue (Dr. Nick Comardelle), and Dr. Randi Domingue Showers (Thomas); nephews, Vincent Tu, Ray Tu, and Shine Tu; and niece, Trina Tu.

Honorary pallbearers will be Francis Tu, Jen-Liang Tu, Dr. Jeff Bernard, Chris Domingue, Christopher Di, Thomas Showers, Nick Comardelle, and Da Yieh Tieh.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
