Charlynn Cicero Leehy

Funeral services for Charlynn Cicero Leehy, 55, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 25, 2018, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with Rev. Keith Garvin, Rev. Job Edathinatt, and Rev. Matthew Long officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.

Charlynn was born on January 27, 1963, in Monroe, LA, and died at home with her loving family by her side. She lost a very courageous battle with cancer, but lived with her illness with incredible strength, grace, and beauty.

Charlynn attended St. Frederick High School, Ole Miss, and graduated from ULM with a degree in elementary education. She was employed by State Farm for several years before pursuing her passion for teaching at Jesus the Good Shepherd School for more than 15 years. After her diagnosis of cancer, she began working part-time at the Children’s Coalition. However, it was her gift for teaching and love for her students that endeared her to her students and their parents.

Charlynn also had an extraordinary God-given gift for leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was incredibly funny, kind, generous, and endearing. Her inner and outer beauty was contagious, and she was always captivating from the moment she walked into a room. Charlynn was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to everyone she knew. She was faithful to God, and is now in His presence...and is probably hanging out with Mary as you read this obituary.

Charlynn was most at home in the classroom. If things got boring or restless, she may throw in a quick “stand up and dance” or a congo line around the room. She taught with love, compassion and respect; inspiring her students to believe in God and, most importantly, believe in themselves. She brought optimism every day, greeting the children with her contagious smile, teaching them not only to count, but to count their blessings.

In life, Charlynn was the ray of sunshine peeping through the clouds, always welcome and a little brighter than normal. Her heart always led her to give and help others. If a friend wasn’t feeling well or going through tough times, her kitchen became her pharmacy and food was her prescription. She would cook something, drop it off, flash her smile, and encourage you. She was raw, witty, genuine with a robust passion for life - truly a friend’s friend.

Charlynn centered her life around family. She loved and encouraged her boys to follow their dreams, lifting them up when life got heavy - always there as “Mom”. Hardly a day went by that she didn’t go by and check on Nellie and Charlie, making sure they were OK (and maybe sneaking a bite of whatever Nellie had cooked up in her kitchen).

She and Scott shared a lifetime of great memories. Their marriage was both a test and testimony of their wedding vows. In good times, they held hands and walked through life sharing and enjoying all it had to offer. When illness struck, they squeezed hands tighter and walked closer, showing us all how beautiful a relationship can be.

She is predeceased by her father-in-law, Everette Leehy.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 31 years, Judge Scott Leehy; sons whom she adored, Nicholas Leehy and his girlfriend, Caroline Trahan, and Michael Leehy; parents, Nellie Miletello and Charles Cicero; mother-in-law, Pat Leehy; brother, S.J. Cicero and wife Diana; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Leehy, Dr. Ricky Caples, Charles Marsala, Dr. Larry Danna, Steve Taylor, Blake Herrington, Trey Nelson, and Roy Arthur. Honorary pallbearers will be S.J. Cicero and the teachers, staff, and her former students of Jesus the Good Shepherd School.

Charlynn and her family would like to thank Mary and Dr. Sanjay Joseph and staff for their loving care of Charlynn during her illness, and her dedicated team at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Although she lost her earthly battle with cancer, she is now victorious, having been cured by the healing hand of Jesus.
