He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Janet and his half-brother, Tim Masur, and his parents, Sylvian Masur and Ethel Weldman.
Charles graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He was president of his fraternity Zeta Beta Tau and a passionate Alabama football fan. He served in the United States Army as a captain in the Quartermasters Corps. At Alabama, he was introduced to his future wife Janet by his sister Sylvia, and they made Monroe their home for over 60 years.
Charles joined the family business in scrap metal in Monroe and later started the business Auto Shred of Louisiana in south Monroe. At one point in his career, Charles participated in a sting operation with the Ouachita Parish sheriff’s department to apprehend criminals dealing in stolen scrap metal. His bravery during the operation, despite personal risk, was recognized with a national award by the U. S. Attorney General.
An avid hobbyist, Charles became an instrument-rated private pilot in his 40s. He also loved to travel in his motorhome with his family, frequently visiting destinations like Alaska, Santa Fe and New Orleans. Sharing these adventures with his grandchildren brought him great joy.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to his caregivers Jacob Pihl, Patricia Bell, Jason Waldrop, Janelle Cooper and other Serenity caregivers and staff at The Gardens at Georgia Tucker, who have provided much comfort and support over the last few years.
