Charles L. McGough

Funeral services for Charles L. McGough, 87, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Victory Baptist Church, Finks Hideaway Road, Monroe, with Rev. Grant Bamburg, Rev. Everett Geis, and Rev. Charles Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mr. McGough was born on August 19, 1930 in Monroe, LA. He was a member of the Bill Nettles Dixie Blue Boys Band prior to serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War from October 8, 1948 to October 3, 1952. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Charles returned to Monroe, LA where he became employed as a firefighter for the City of Monroe. He had 35 years of service and retired as a District Chief in 1990. He received an honor and was recognized in the Firefighter’s Hall of Fame for never missing a day on the job in all of his years of service. He met and married the love of his life, Betty McGough in 1954. They were married for 63 years and lived in Monroe with their two daughters. Mr. McGough was a local business owner where he along with family members owned and operated a background check/court record screening company, Charles McGough Independent Contractors. He was still working at the age of 87, prior to his illness. He and his family were members of Victory Baptist Church, where he attended for over 60 years. He was a charter member where the church was founded and built in 1956. He was truly “one of a kind” and a man dearly loved by his family and friends. He was known for his musical talents and for his acts of love and kindness toward others. He gave to many charities and organizations. His passions were his church, his family, and his work.

Survivors include his daughters, Rhonda Mann and husband James of Monroe and Lori Tindall and husband Richie of Monroe: four grandchildren, Justin Mann and wife Amanda, Tara Stutts and husband Jason, Taylor Tindall and Cody Tindall. He had five great-grandchildren, Ryan, James Peyton, Landry, Presley, and Cameron on the way; two brothers, Donald McGough and wife Julia of Mansville, TX and Frank McGough and wife Carolyn of Monroe, LA; four sisters, Patricia Hutson, Janie Lipscomb, Carol Collins and husband David, and Betty Sue Barnes and husband Hartwell.

Mr. McGough is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Adkins McGough; his parents, Duke and Ruby McGough; his sister, Rita McGough; two brothers, Monte McGough and James A. (Jimmy) McGough.

Serving as pallbearers are: Gary Armstrong, Mark Armstrong, Jerry Barnes, Ken Barnes, Greg McGough and Keith McGough. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Victory Baptist Church and members of Monroe City Firefighters.

Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2017, at Victory Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The family would like to give a Special Thanks to his caregiver, Susan Reynolds.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Victory Baptist Church.
