Mr. Folse was born November 27, 1923, in Ponchatoula, LA, and died February 28, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served as an enemy aircraft plotter and landing craft pilot aboard the USS Hunter Liggett and USS Dade in both the China Sea and Asiatic Pacific (South) and received Honorable Discharge at the rank of Yeoman Second Class in 1946. During his time in the Navy, he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and Honorary Medal from the Emperor of China for the liberation of Chinese Forces in the South China Sea. He went on to work for Texaco Oil Company in New Orleans, LA, as a draftsman and construction supervisor and later for Volkswagen America as Distribution Manager. He was the owner of Folse Brother’s Toyota in Slidell, LA, during the 1970’s before retiring. He spent many of his retirement years in Ocala and Taveres FL. with close friend Hazel Chopin. He eventually came to reside in West Monroe at the Savannah Grand Assisted Living Facility, where he was known simply as Charlie.
Mr. Folse was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph Folse and Bertha Robicheaux Folse; his wife, Hilda Grace Marie Folse; two brothers and two sisters, Henry, Herman, Ruby, and Margie; and two grandsons, Patrick David Folse and Brian Charles Folse.
Mr. Folse is survived by his sons, Charles James Folse, Jr. and wife Linda, Larry James Folse and wife Peggy Jones, daughter, Kathleen Ann Folse Scheuermann and husband Ron; grandchildren, James Peter Folse, Kelly Melinda Dieudonne and husband Chris, Heidi Barrett and husband Austin, Chad Dunne and wife Alisha; and five great grandchildren, Shelby Barrett, A.J. Barrett, Landon Dunne, Kadence Dunne, and Kaylee Dunne.
The family requests that instead of cards or flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or The National World War II Museum in his honor, as Charles was a regular contributor to these worthy establishments.
The family would also like to thank the residents and staff at the Savannah Grand in West Monroe for making our Dad feel so welcome and for the exceptional care he was given. He was truly among a small group of God’s angels. And also thanks to Samer N. Roy, MD and his staff for their very compassionate care.
One of Dad’s favorite statements was, “When I go don’t shed a tear for me because I have had a very long and blessed life and I am very proud of all my kids.” He will be missed.
