Funeral services for Charles Leo Duncan, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Rowland Road Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Elliott officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time.
Charles was born in Mangham, LA, on January 20, 1935. In 1959, he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Nowlin from Oak Grove, LA. They made their home in Monroe. Charles worked at Selig Manufacturing as a furniture upholsterer for over 27 years. He then began driving a school bus for the Ouachita Parish School system while working maintenance for Rowland Road Baptist Church, where he and his family were members.
Charles was an avid deer hunter and any conversation with him would eventually get around to the topic of hunting. His family and friends share many wonderful memories of times together in the woods and at the camp, along with the telling and re-telling of “deer tales”. He passed from this life on Saturday, December 21, 2024, after battling many health issues over the past several years. Through it all, he remained a loving husband, father, granddaddy, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Richard Duncan and Clara Gorton Duncan: three brothers, Rufus “Pete” Duncan, Douglas “Coot” Duncan, Claude Duncan and one sister, Shirley Duncan Thomason.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Nowlin Duncan: three sons, Rick Duncan and wife Vickie, Chuck Duncan and wife Melissa, and Kenny Duncan: 9 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cullen Bishop, Dustin Craighead, Michael Davis, Ricky Flores, Cody Jones, and Adam Whitlock. Honorary pallbearers will be Makin Lenard and Drew White.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Alphacare Home Health and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their affectionate services, and to the many loyal friends that visited, loved and supported us through the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowland Road Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
