Charlene Taylor Simonton passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the age of 93.
Charlene is predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Dr. Robert Morgan Simonton. Charlene is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Thomas Simonton and his wife Alice; daughter, Merrie Jo Simonton Robertson and her husband Ron; grandchildren, Robert Simonton and his wife Julie, Taylor Simonton and his wife Beth, Braley Simonton, Beth Robertson Newman and her husband Lee, Scott Robertson and his wife Dzung,; and eight great grandchildren.
While living in New Orleans with her parents, Charles A. Taylor and Nell Honea Taylor, she graduated at sixteen as her high school’s valedictorian. She then studied music at Tulane University’s Newcomb College where she met Morgan and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was a 70+ year member of Grace Episcopal Church, past president of Monroe Junior Charity League, past president of Ouachita Medical Society Alliance, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s Medical Auxiliary.
At her request, a private family service was held on April 1, 2013, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
