Graveside services for Catherine Lynn (Kate) Tanguis, 50, of Austin, TX formerly of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Job Edathinatt Sciara officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Catherine Lynn (Kate) Tanguis passed away December 5, 2017 after fighting a long but courageous battle with colon cancer.
Kate was born in Ruston, Louisiana May 7, 1967. She attended St. Frederick High School in Monroe, and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following her graduation, she moved to Austin where she lived for over 28 years.
Kate dedicated her life to teaching with the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department for 25 years through to retirement, with an extraordinary attention to special needs children. She had a personality larger than life, filled the room with her laughter, and had an open and kind heart to everyone. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, never missed an ACL festival, was a phenomenal cook and party thrower, and enjoyed spending time with the people she loved. As one friend noted, “Kate was a legendary person. Her love of music was palpable, and her generosity was amazing.”
Kate is survived by her loving parents, Barre and I.V. Tanguis; her sister, Danielle and brother-in-law Chuck Sappington; brother, Barre and sister-in-law Cecile Tanguis; her two fur-babies, Lily and Dutch; and an enormous number of amazing friends she loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
