Casey Yale Johnson

A memorial service for Casey Yale Johnson will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 22, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville, LA with Rev. Todd Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Cemetery in Archibald, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Casey, 29, was born in West Monroe, LA on March 15, 1993, to Eric Yale Johnson and Cynthia Anne Chapman Place. He passed away suddenly, on December 17, 2022. At the time, he was joyfully living his best life in Lafayette, LA with his wife of just over a year, Harper Joy Richards Johnson, and their two children, Montgomery and Sterling. Casey was preceded in death by grandfathers George Yale Johnson and Kenneth Calk.

Casey attended West Monroe High School and had recently achieved a life goal of completing school to become a welder and then certification as a pipe welder. Casey was well known for his proficiency in the kitchen, whether at work or simple home-cooked meals for his family. He loved cooking, a skill developed (perhaps inherited) from his father, Eric. Throughout West Monroe and Lafayette, Casey’s passion and skill in the kitchen were enjoyed by many family, friends, colleagues and patrons alike.

Casey possessed a warm authenticity and quiet intellect that he used with humility, but nonetheless impressed all who encountered it. His work ethic and desire to be a good co-worker were unrivaled amongst his peers.

Those close to him knew him not for his disease, but for his silly and sensitive nature, his soft heart and witty sense of humor; they knew Casey for the things he loved most in life. He loved his wife and children fiercely, living for them. He adored their dog, Winnie (whom he considered his first child). And he loved sharing his hobbies, including anime, and playing games such as World of Warcraft, Magic the Gathering, Heroes of the Storm, and Dungeons and Dragons (particularly with his cousin, Madison).

Casey was part of a large, blended family and a large network of friends that he developed from natural life experiences. Despite the many blessings bestowed by and upon Casey in these experiences, he struggled with addiction. Casey’s journey with recovery was years in the making when his time was called. He was championing his recovery, making it a priority to help other men struggling with the same disease. Casey held a position at his home group, exercising his passion in service of the fight against addiction.

Casey leaves behind his wife Harper Joy Richards Johnson, his step-daughter Montgomery Richards and his son Sterling Yale Johnson, born February 19, 2021; father, Eric Yale Johnson and wife Heather Twist of West Monroe, LA; mother, Cynthia Anne Chapman Place and husband Tim of West Monroe, LA; step-mother Brandi Bryant of Texas; honorary mother Dee Thibodaux of West Monroe, LA; sister Annelise Johnson Keiser and husband Nathan of West Monroe, LA; sister Finley Johnson of Texas; step-brother Chris Place and wife Rachel of Calhoun, LA; step-sister Brittany Ray and husband Mitch of Texas; step-brother Sean Place and wife Ashley of West Monroe, LA; grandparents Patricia Johnson of Rayville, LA; Brenda Calk of West Monroe, LA; and Ron and Carol Chapman of Seattle, WA; close cousins Madison Harrell and wife Callie of Mangham, LA; Mackenzie Harrell of New Orleans, LA; Devin Chapman of Seattle WA; and Chynna Chapman of West Monroe, LA; five nieces and nephews, and many aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Lee Harrell, Madison Harrell, Tim Place, Micah Murchie, Mike Williams, Tim Freeman, Sean Place, and Nathan Keiser.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the countless people who have extended their help financially, spiritually or with their time.

The family requests donations be made in Casey’s name to: Shatterproof.
