Funeral services for Melvin Carroll “D-Boy” Townsend, 82, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 4, 2016 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Crowville Masonic Cemetery.Mr. Townsend died Wednesday, March 2, 2016. He was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church. Carroll attended LSU and was just 9 hours from completing his degree. He retired from A&LM Railroad and was an avid baseball fan.Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Betty Townsend; son, Royce Lane Townsend; and grandson, Tyler Townsend.Survivors include his daughter, Carynn Dawn Wiggins and husband Ronnie; son, Billy Townsend and wife Deidre; grandchildren, Jordan Wiggins and wife Ainsley, Brennan Wiggins, Maddie Wiggins, Brian Wiggins, Jeannie Wiggins, Brandon Townsend, Ryan Townsend, Colton Townsend; sister, Mrs. Norma Holloway; brother-in-law, Elvin Lightsey; and several nephews.Pallbearers will be Layne McGuffee, Kevin Routon, Arnie Pardue, Jimbo Pardue, Jimmy Moak, and Kirby McGuffee. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Hinson, Earl “Hooper” Nealy and O. L. “Rat” Townsend.Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.
