Memorial Services for Carroll Babb, 71, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2019, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Babb was born January 19, 1948, in Port Arthur, TX, and died March 22, 2019, at his residence. Carroll loved cooking and cruising with his family, spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards. He would never turn down an invitation to breakfast, especially with Wayne and Raymond. Often, Carroll would have conversations remembering and laughing about the summers spent with his niece, Theresa Jones, and nephews, Jim and John Goss, and Kristopher Harrington.
Carroll worked selflessly as an insurance adjuster with Shelter Insurance for more than 26 years. Following his retirement, Carroll volunteered countless hours with the American Red Cross setting up and managing shelters and distributing supplies during natural disasters. He was very proud to donate blood and plasma for many decades, always saying, “The babies need it.”
Carroll was a true patriot with a passion for service to veterans. He served in the Army from 1970-1978 including a full tour to Vietnam in 1971-1972. Carroll was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans who served as the 1st Junior Vice Commander. As a part of his volunteer support to the DAV, Carroll took great pride helping veterans with VA claims and benefits.
Mr. Babb was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Welch; father, Louis Babb; and brother, Ralph Babb.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patsy Babb; daughter, Stephanie and husband Michael Poche; grandchildren, Kaley, Mari Katherine, and Evan Poche; sisters-in-law, Margarette and her husband Charles Goss, and Paula Reynolds; brothers, Lionel Babb, Robert and his wife Anne Babb, Tom and his wife Liz Welch, Joel and his wife Janice Welch, David and his partner Jack Welch; numerous nieces and nephews; and “second favorite daughter”, Jessica Brown.
Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans #51 Chapter. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who are willing to make a donation to the local DAV chapter in Carroll’s honor. DAV Flying Tigers #51, PO Box 151, West Monroe, LA 71291.
