Carla Anne Wright Steele, 68, of Monroe, Louisiana passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 20, 2023. She was born in Hollandale, Mississippi and moved to West Monroe, Louisiana in 1967. Carla was a gentle soul who loved animals and nature. She often described herself as a free spirit, wanderer, and a politics junkie.
After graduating from West Monroe High School in 1972, she went on to study social work and earned her degree from Northeast Louisiana University now known as ULM. Carla retired from the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Courts Office in 2015. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and shared a love of music with her husband, Jimmy.
Carla was predeceased by her mother, Anne Norris Wright; and her first husband, Henry Florsheim. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Steele; father, James Carl Wright; three siblings, Cousie Giglio and wife Susan, Lavonne Kennedy Goodeaux and husband Dennis, Sara Holley and husband Travis; four nieces Heather Giglio McCauley, Ashley Giglio Lucas, Morgan Kennedy, and Emily Kennedy Webb; and one nephew, H. Barlow Holley; blended family members, Laura Steele Bennett and husband Gregg of Spokane, Washington, Dylan Steele and wife Shannon of Halethorpe, Maryland, and Dustin Steele of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; as well as many dear extended family members and special friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Zavala and the staff of St. Francis Medical Center.
Private family services for Carla will be held July 22, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the River Cities Humane Society for Cats, an organization Carla felt strongly about and where she adopted her cats 2 beloved cats, Dusty and Bertha, or the charity of your choice.
