Funeral services for Mr. Carl Edward “Hawkeye” Childress of Mangham, LA will be 2:00PM Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church in Mangham with Rev. Terry Ganey officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery near Mangham under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville. Visitation will be from 12:00PM until time of service Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Childress was born March 22, 1942 in Mangham, LA and passed from this life on December 11, 2020 in West Monroe, LA at the age of 78. Carl was an electrician by trade and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was given the nickname “Hawkeye” by friends and family because he was an excellent marksman in spite of being blind in one eye. He was a faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for most of his life. He enjoyed reading his Bible and gardening, and he had a special love for children and enjoyed the Christmas season. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dawson and Hazel Childress; one brother, Douglas Childress; three sisters, Louise Howard, Jean McClure and Marie Hicks; and his father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Margie Wilson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty years, Dixie Childress of Mangham; his son, Danny Wayne Childress and wife, Rene of Baton Rouge; one brother, Ronny Childress and wife, Linda of Mangham; two sisters, Betty Romero and husband, Larry of Mangham and Tina Fitzgerald and husband, Terry of Archibald; two grandchildren, Dr. Taylar Childress-McKeithen and husband, Cord of Baton Rouge and Anna Michael Childress; three great-grandchildren, Alexander and Lorelei McKeithen, and Lina Rose Adams; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Shiers, Mike Wilson, Jay Dee Shiers, Zach Wilson, Glenn Childress, Roy Wiggins, Sr., Chad Duncan, Bracy Wilson, Kolby Shiers, Roy Wiggins, Jr., Jerry Hutto and Chuck Sebren.
