Funeral services celebrating the life of Carey Paul Smith, Sr., 79, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at the Goodwill Baptist Church in Goodwill, LA, with Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. Interment and military honors will follow in Forest Cemetery in Forest, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.
Mr. Smith died peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Smith was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rites Mason, and a member of the Barak Shrine. He was still enjoying working as a chemical environmentalist, as he had for many years. As a young man, Carey Paul served his country for 8 years in the United States Navy and re-enlisted serving another 4 years in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Irene Smith; sister, Nell Lewis; brother, Travis Smith; and his son, Carey Paul Smith, II.
Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn Smith; three children, Michelle Underwood and husband, David, Fordie Cook, III, and Chanah Crow and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gavin, Kereston, Fordie IV, Hillary, Jonah, Shooter, and Mary Annah; brothers, Ted Smith and wife, Nan, Truman Smith and wife, Rita, Mickey Smith and wife, Diane, and Rev. Johnny Smith and wife, Pat; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Crow, Dalton Purcell, Fordie Cook, IV, Gavin Pollock, Heath Smith, and Josh Smith.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at Goodwill Baptist Church from 12:30 P.M. until service time.
