Funeral services for Carey Judson “Bubba” O’Neal, Jr., 71, of Rayville will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010, at Rayville United Methodist Church with Rev. John Robert Black officiating. Interment will follow at Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville.
Bubba was born December 31, 1938, in Rayville, LA, and passed away on November 26, 2010, in Rayville after an extended illness. He was a life long resident of Rayville and a member of the Rayville United Methodist Church. He was community and volunteer oriented from a very young age. He became a volunteer fire fighter at age 15, coached and umpired youth baseball, and volunteered with the ambulance service. He taught school for six years, worked for the State of LA in Adult Probation and Parole, was a licensed funeral director, and for the last few years served as deputy at the Richland Parish Detention Center. In1985 Bubba assumed the job he loved the most. He became the Fire Chief in Rayville where he served others in their time of need for nearly 20 years. He was affectionately known as “Little Chief”.
He was preceded in death by his father Carey J. O’Neal, Sr.
He is survived by his mother Barbara Guynes O’Neal of Rayville, LA; son Carey Jason O’Neal of Alexandria, LA; daughter Alyson O’Neal of Monroe, LA; sister Debbie O’Neal Willis and husband Cecil of West Monroe, LA; niece Candi Hatch of West Monroe, LA; five grandchildren Madelyn and Peyton Cumpton, Jack, Julia, and Katherine O’Neal; aunt Miriam “Jacky” Reech of Lake Providence, LA; very special friends Jim and Sandy Adams and Ricky and Brenda Goodman all of Rayville, LA.
Pallbearers will be Jim Adams, Ricky Goodman, Ralph Cheek, Tommy Nicholson, Doyle Hammons, and Billy Ray Gammill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ronnie Hubbard, Louie Richardson, Mike Calk, Sheriff Charles McDonald, John Fragala, Dusty O’Neal, Tom Heath, Joe Heath, Connie Mott, Billy Joe White, Charlie Gammill, Sam Hessor and all Richland Parish Fire Fighters.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ronnie Hubbard and staff for their many years of care and friendship, Hospice Family Alliance, and the staff at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
