Brodie Jack (Whip) Whipple, born Jan. 28, 1937 in Mer Rouge, La. Predeceased by parents Robert and Lauricey Risinger Whipple; three brothers, one being his twin; and one sister. Survived by his wife Cherry Deats Whipple; son Steven (Cathy); three grandsons Garrett, Patrick, and Adam; one stepdaughter Leisa (Ray) Geoghegan; two stepsons Mike (Melanie) and Mark (Joan) Perkins; and five granddaughters to whom he was only Popi – Gretchen and Victoria Perkins, Jessica (David) Elston, Erica (Michael) Rhodes, and Brianne Geoghegan. They all learned life lessons from him, the last one being teaching Brianne how to fish. Whip is also survived by Sam, his beloved dog. He and Sam had many friends in Kiroli Park where they walked every day until he was no longer able to walk due to ALS. Whip was loved by all who knew him. He was a kind, gentle man who was wise beyond his years. Whip may not have spoken much, but when he did, it was sure to be something insightful and funny. He loved nature and taught us all to love it as well. He became an artist in the late 1980s, doing a series of primitive art entitled Me and Billy. His pieces Pickin’ Cotton, and Diggin’ to China won best of show at Masur Museum in March of 1986. Later he had a one-man show at Milsaps College in Jackson, Miss. His paintings showed his humor and love of nature. We thank the staff of Louisiana Hospice (Candy, Monica, Mary Margaret and Glenda and his sitters, Vonda, Tanya, Rachel, Cynthia, and Skyler for the loving care he was given. I, Cherry, thank my children and their spouses for their loving care of their stepfather, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church ladies for their food and prayers, and our many friends who dropped off food, sent cards, visited, called, and prayed. Thanks to J.W. Bunn for building the ramp that let Whip enjoy the outdoors. We will miss Whip and cherish his memory forever. Please no flowers, but memorials to ALS Foundation or St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church would be appreciated. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday December 1, 2013 at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall – 1712 Wellerman Rd. West Monroe, LA with the Right Reverend Robert Dandridge officiating.
