A celebration of life for Mrs. Bonnie Joyner Burke will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Betty Swanson officiating. Interment will follow in Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday.
Bonnie Jo Joyner Burke was born on November 13, 1925, in Winnsboro, LA. After graduating from Delhi High School, she came to Monroe and worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She married John Paul Burke on June 7, 1947, and they raised four children in Monroe. In 1975, she began working as a teacher’s aide at Carver Elementary and later at Lexington Elementary. After retirement, Mrs. Burke volunteered at the Glenwood Medical Mall Auxiliary for several years.
Mrs. Burke was a member of Southside United Methodist Church for over 40 years and later became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Chancel Choir and United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader and spent many years with her children at the local library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Burke; her parents, Henry Clay Joyner and Eloise McKeithen Joyner; cousin, Rev. Lea Joyner; sister, Dorothy Williams; and grandchildren, John Costantino and Jamie Costantino.
Mrs. Burke is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara and Joe Costantino, Janice and Walter Burt, Paul and Rhonda Burke, and Karen and Vincent Marsala. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind one sister, Ollie Pepper and one brother, Ray Joyner, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
