Bobby Gene Knickerbocker
Monroe – A Celebration of Life for Bobby Gene Knickerbocker, 78, of Monroe will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road. Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and the service will follow at 4 p.m.
Bobby was born November 11, 1942, in Canton, OK to the late G.D. and Gladys Vaughn Knickerbocker and went to be with the Lord October 23rd after a battle with cancer. He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1960 and attended Northeast Louisiana University (ULM). He worked hard in the family dirt construction business. He obtained his pilot’s license and pursued his passion for flying as a crop duster and pipeline patrol pilot. He retired from flying in 2018. At retirement, he had accumulated 26,763 flying hours.
Mr. Knickerbocker’s work ethic was second to none. He worked tirelessly providing for his family. He had a wonderful knack for telling good stories, could fix everything, teach anybody anything, and had the patience of Job. He loved gardening and as a child of parents of the Great Depression, never threw away anything. Therefore, he could build whatever he or anyone he knew needed with materials and parts saved from many decades. If he had been marooned on Gilligan’s Island, they would have been off a lot sooner due to his engineering talents. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed passing this love to his son-in-laws and grandchildren.
He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of North Monroe Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Virginia, his parents and his brother David (late wife Addie). Survivors include; daughters, Kay Dick (Teal), and Kim Barnes (David); grandchildren, Caleb Dick (Ashten), Aaron Dick, and Jackie Dick; great-grandson, Levi Dick; brother, George Knickerbocker (late wife Helen), sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews; and his faithful four-legged companion Herbert.
The family would like to thank MD Anderson, Oncology Associates, and extend a special thank you to Louisiana Hospice, especially Marie, Julia, and Carlette.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to North Monroe Baptist Church.
