Graveside services for Birdie Helen May Foster, 96, of Monroe, will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday June 25, 2019, at Old Union Cemetery in Caldwell Parish, LA, with Rev. Jonathan Wagner officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road in Monroe. Visitation will be 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Monday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.
Birdie was born September 2, 1922, to the union of Herbert and Sammi Odelle May. She passed away Saturday June 22, 2019 at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home.
Birdie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She came from a large family of 11 children eight girls and three boys. Birdie served as a 2nd LT. Registered Nurse in the United States Army. She worked as a Public Health Registered Nurse for 38 years after retiring from the military. She was avid Bridge player, played golf, enjoyed fishing and loved animals. Birdie loved gardening and won numerous awards for her flower arrangements. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Birdie was preceded in death by her husbands, Hunter F. May and Myron S. Foster; parents, Herbert and Sammi May; brothers, Foy and Everette May; sisters, Marjorie Fulton, Odelle Jones, Lenora Howell, Elva Massengale, Rosemary Streetman and Joyce Bradford.
Survivors include daughter, Rebecca May Herron; grandson, Jeb Herron; brother, J.H. May and wife Billie; sister, Carol McDougald and husband Jerry.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston, LA, and to the River Cities Humane Society in Monroe, LA.
