Funeral Services for Mr. Billy Gene Barnes, 88, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Philip Bedenbender officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday morning.
Billy Barnes was born June 1, 1932, in Eudora, AR and passed away May 4, 2021, in West Monroe, LA. He was an active member of Swartz First Baptist Church and an esteemed veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War conflict. Billy worked for Manville Forest Products as the Division Quality Control Manager and served for over 25 years as head Quality Assurance Technician for 9 folding and carrier plants nationally, providing product qualification testing and auditing internal plant quality control programs. More than that, Billy had the unique experience of working for our local paper mill as it went through all of the changes from Olin, Olinkraft, Manville, and, lastly, Riverwood.
An avid, true, and loyal LSU fan, Billy Barnes loved his history and his family dearly. Some of his fondest memories were his annual family trip with his children to Colorado, fishing and duck hunting, and, in his later years, traveling with his second wife, Martha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Annie Barnes, two brothers, Carl Barnes and James Barnes, his first wife, Judith Barnes, and third son, Glenn Barnes.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Barnes; children, John Mark Barnes (Annette), David Lee Barnes (Kim), Glen's life partner, Niels, and Elizabeth Ann Bain (Dennis); five grandsons, Ian Bain, Tyler Bain, Tate Bain, Ethan Barnes, and Trevor Barnes; step-family, Stephen Germany (Teresa), Grace Kirksey (Bill), and Enoch Germany (Teresa); grandchildren, Joseph Kirksey (April), Sarah Kirksey, Zach Kirksey (Mallory) and Anna Kirksey (Christopher), and great grandchildren, Colton Breithaupt and Elizabeth Grace Kirksey.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Barnes, Trevor Barnes, Bill Kirksey, Joe Kirksey, Zach Kirksey, and Christopher Prudhomme.
