Betty Ruth MerrickMemorial service for Mrs. Betty Ruth Merrick, 89, of Monroe, LA will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Whit Stodgill and Rev. Gregg Riley officiating. Mrs. Merrick passed away on September 22, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Osco and Carthel Coleman. Mrs. Merrick was a lifetime resident of Arkansas until she came to live about seven years ago with her daughter in Monroe. She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and the Daughters of the King. Mrs. Merrick was a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas. She was a retired teacher and taught at Morrilton High School, Sacred Heart Catholic School, and Forrest City High School in Arkansas. The love of her life was her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as GiGi. Mrs. Merrick also loved knitting, traveling and cross word puzzles. Mrs. Merrick was preceded in death by her husband, V.H. Merrick, Jr.Survivors include her daughter, Carlene Riley and husband Rev. Gregg Riley of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Carolyn Riley Kirk and husband Col. Daniel Kirk of Springfield, VA; and Matthew Taylor Riley of Monroe, LA; and four great grandchildren, Hannah Austin Hunnicutt, Holly Mae Hunnicutt, Heidi Ruth Hunnicutt, and Daniel Kane Kirk IV. Visitation will be held from 12noon until service time at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church or the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
