A funeral service for Mrs. Betty Nelson Kelley, 66, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 2, 2018, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe.
Betty was born on September 8, 1951, and died on March 26, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Brown Frederick Nelson and Bonnie Sue Layton Nelson of Lake Providence, LA; grandparents, John Julius Nelson and Olivia Hyland Nelson and James W Layton and Gola Lee Layton of Lake Providence, LA.
Betty received her Master’s Degree in Education and taught thirty plus years in early childhood education in the Parish School System as well as Children’s House Montessori School in Monroe. She was faithful to her God and eager to share her faith with her children and grandchildren. Betty was beloved by all whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 37 years, William Ashworth “Bill” Kelley; children, Brown William Kelley and wife Renee, Sarah Kelley Hendrix and husband Timothy Justin “T.J.”, Jessica Kelley O’Quinn and husband Damian, and Jonathan Ashworth Kelley; six grandchildren, Layton O’Quinn, Lily Kelley, Lexi Gabucci, Landon Gabucci, Baylen O’Quinn, and Aubrey James Hendrix; twin brother, John Nelson and wife Tammy, and two other brothers, James “Jim” Nelson and wife Gaynell, and Don Nelson and wife Barbara; two sisters, Nancy Coots and husband Steve and Grace Baxter and husband Jim; two brothers-in-law, Steven Heywood Kelley and wife Katharine “Kitsie”, and Dr. Wilson Hartz; and three sisters-in-law, Debby Burrows, Jenny Kennedy and husband Joe, and Heidi Presley and husband Ron.
Pallbearers will be Don Nelson, Jim Nelson, John Nelson, Steve Kelley, TJ Hendrix, Damian O’Quinn, and Tate Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Presley, Ron Presley, Hooper Jones, Jared Walker, Steve Coots, and Jim Baxter.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home with a Vigil Wake service to be held at 6:00 PM.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Morgan, Dr. Edgar Feinberg, Dr. Lyle Brown, St. Francis MICU and 5th Floor Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit; Dr. Louie Crook and the Emergency Room Staff at St. Francis; and Father James, Father Phillip and Pastoral Care Staff as well as Father Keith Garvin of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and all who lifted her up in prayer throughout her illness.
