Funeral services for Betty Lindsey Jasper, 78, of West Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday August 20, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Charles Holstead officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Betty was a 1948 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. She worked at her family’s farm and dairy and in customer service at City Drug Store in downtown West Monroe from 1948 to 1957. She and her husband, Roy, were avid dancers at Fox Roll Arena during its heyday. Betty was also active in the Highland Elementary PTA, the annual Cherry Festival, and student hearing tests. In her retirement years she and Roy worked to refurbish and maintain the Entergy employee-owned camp at Lake Bruin, LaPoLiCo. Betty was a talented cook, gardener, and artist. Mrs. Jasper was a true animal lover. She rescued dogs, cats, squirrels, and skunks.
Mrs. Jasper is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy Wilson Jasper; parents, John Odie, Sr. and Bonnie Dean Lindsey of West Monroe; and brother John Odie “Joe” Lindsey, Jr. of Denham Springs, LA.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Jasper; sister, Bobbie Jo Jenkins and husband Bud; aunt, Reba Henry; cousins, Dan Henry and Ginger Edenfield; and special friend Jerry Biddle.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Biddle, Nate Henry, Nick Henry, Terry Paxton, John Storm, and Joe Trichell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Jenkins, Ray Alexander, Larry Pittard, Jim Storm, and the Entergy Service Department.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time Wednesday August 20, 2008 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
